Wohoo! Welcome to our first ever ZesTea Talk! We are so excited about this feature! Why? Because Heidi and I are on this road with you and we don't have all the answers. But first, I forgot to mention in our Hostess Note that we've added some very important 'We believe' statements to Our Purpose tab. Be sure to check them out. Also, Heidi's post yesterday is a must-read. You really don't want to miss it!
So here's how ZesTeaTalk works—We'll toss out a topic and you, our darling Zesty Chicks, can discuss it. Tell us what you know from experience—whether your own or some one else's. If you've read a book that touches on the topic—tell us! (and if you found it helpful.) Share your thoughts and your questions!
ZesTea Talk is a round table discussion so we can pool our knowledge and insights and help answer each other's questions. --A girlfriends resource, so to speak.
Things to remember when participating in ZesTea Talk:
~ We want to stay God-honoring in all we say.
~ You can leave anonymous comments if you're more comfortable with that.
~ Follow the comments and interact with each other.
{To follow the comments either click the “Email follow up comments to...” button on the comments screen OR, in the side bar there's a feed for comments you can use OR you can just come back and see what people are saying. :) }
And now for this week's topic!
I have to admit, I decided to start with a seemingly easy topic to break the ice with. I looooove the topics suggested and we will get to them, I promise...but not today.
Today is Menopause.
I'm telling ya, just the word makes me want to run away! My hormones have been really whacked out at times and it's about the worst thing ever—and even though my husband was very understanding of ALL that entailed, he didn't enjoy that time either.
I know some of us have gone through menopause—on our own or 'induced,' and there are those who are entering menopause—some of us are entering it early (oh the joys) and some of us aren't even close. LoL. But I really think this is relevant to all of us because our bodies change and our hormones seem to change even faster than our bodies (or is it just me?) and we need to be prepared—as much as we can be.
So my Zesty Chicks, let's talk about menopause and the ins and outs of living with it and especially loving with it. Tips. Tricks. Books. Ideas. Questions (so others can offer some answers or ideas!). Thoughts. Experiences. What's worked for you? What's worked for your sister or friend? What does NOT work?
We want to hear it!! :-) :-)

4 Zesters spoke up:
Patty, I am post menopausal. I just finished the year without a period that tells you you are past menopause.
What helped me the most was bio-identical hormone cream. Before I started using it I was suffering from a mild depression. I had hot flashes constantly, no energy, no motivation, painful sex, low libido, you name it. I found a doctor who knew bio-identical hormones and she started me on the cream. These hormones are identical to what your body actually makes.
Honestly I don't know how I would have made it through without them. They made all the difference in the world for me. Within 2 months of my first dose, I had energy and the depression was lifted. Hot flashes became fleeting. Motivation returned as did the desire for sex. Along with the bio-identical cream I took Evening Primrose Oil 1500 mg, twice a day. EPO helps regulate hormones.
The cream had a small amount of testosterone in it, which helped me with the low libido. Vitamin E oil is an excellent lubricant.
Menopause is not easy, for sure. Rest is important, lowering your stress is important. Stress affects hormones.
To be honest I've enjoyed the physical relationship more amidst menopause than I did in the years between pregnancies. I think the things above made a difference for me.
Hope this helps!
I haven't started menopause -- my doctor says I probably won't experience it until I'm 50+, but I'm taking notes!
Julie, where do you find bio-identical hormone creams?
Thanks!
Beth
Beth, I have a physician here who knows about them and prescribes them for me. They are compounded here at a local pharmacy. If your regular doctor doesn't know about bio-identical and you know of a pharmacy that compounds them, they can give you the name of doctors that do know how to prescribe them. The pharmacy here that compounds is a locally owned pharmacy. I am 51... and started having symptoms in my early 40's.. At that point I used bio-identical progesterone cream. It leveled things out beautifully. Synthetic hormones and hormone replacement will not have the same affects. In fact hormone replacement therapy has caused problems for many. A side note for you.... never take estrogen without taking progesterone along with it.
Hope this helps!
Julie
My sister does bio-identical hormones, too, and they've helped her. She said another way to find a doctor that knows about, and prescribes, bio-identical hormones is to google 'compounding pharmacy' and your area. I live in the middle of nowhere and I was able to find two pharmacies this way.
Thanks so much, Julie!
