Try as they might for peace, the bully wasn't going away. Recent skirmishes had proved that.
So they met together to decide what to do.
Should they go to war? The colonies were young and the army weak. Chances of victory were almost laughable. As George Washington later wrote, "Americans were not organized as a nation, or known as a people upon the earth. We had no preparation. Money, the nerve of war, was lacking."
Except for a handful of men, everyone still held out hopes for some sort of compromise. War was not something these fathers were eager to engage in.
As the rain stormed down outside the meeting room, a hush fell over the assembly. War had just vehemently been spoken against. Would independence not be given a chance?
Then John Adams stood up.
George Washington noted that what Mr. Adams said may not be remembered but "he moved us to our feet."

The committee voted for complete independence. The rest, as we say, is history.
Like our founders, many of us have a bully that wants to keep us from independence; but our bully is in our bedrooms and our servitude is in regards to our sexuality.
Maybe it is something in our past or maybe an addiction we can't shake. Whatever the case, our bully wants to keep us under their influence and does not want us claiming complete freedom in our sexuality. Furthermore, all the odds seem stacked against us.
Compromise seems the best choice.
We need some John Adams' to come along and rouse us to liberty. Can I be that voice to you today?
We know that signing the Declaration of Independence means war. Let's not pretend it is easy and without cost.
But "where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." Galatians 5:1 says, "It is for freedom's sake that Christ has set us free." We have God on our side, girls!
Maybe you are ill-prepared...like infant America was.
Maybe you feel clueless and unorganized on where to start...like infant America was.
Maybe you lack resources and nerve...like infant America did.
Compromise isn't your friend...like infant America came to see.
Complete liberty and full independence is the solution. It can become a reality with Christ Jesus! Jesus said, "He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives..." Luke 4:18
You see, Freedom was God's idea.So let's declare ours.
And set off some bedroom fireworks to celebrate.

LET FREEDOM RING!!
Our freedom IS IN Christ and He can beat our bully in the bedroom. =]
I'm looking forward to this series, Heidi!
Oh, Heidi - this is FABULOUS. I am SO looking forward to this series. THANK YOU.
Oh i needed that, and the series. I was abused by a previous fiance and it affects me still all the time. I try not to let it. I need freedom from him!
Thank you for your willingness to proclaim the truth and help us to realize our freedom. The analogy is excellent and convicting and inspiring. Death to the Tyrant! So be it, Lord.
