Summer Spice

Okay, ladies, it’s summer time. You know what that means…

That’s right. It’s bathing suit season. (Did I hear a collective groan?)

This always poses a dilemma. I can break out in hives just thinking about it. There is nothing like shopping for a new swimsuit to make me feel like my flaws are uncovered for the entire world to see. Those dressing room mirrors are hardly complimentary (would someone please recommend softer lighting to the designers of these places?)

This is our first mistake, according to the experts. Instead of focusing on our flaws, we should be accentuating our assets! If you’re not sure what style of suit does this for you, check some of these online resources to help:

How will finding a great swimsuit help my sex life with hubs, you may be wondering. My husband could care less about what I wear to the pool, you might be thinking.

That’s what I used to believe. Perhaps it was because I had been wearing the same brown formless one-piece for the past seven years, but imagine my surprise when I discovered my husband has definite opinions about what he would like to see me sporting poolside. Now you know when you feel sexy, sexy is gonna happen. And who can feel sexy in that seven-year-old formless shape-destroyer?

Let’s be careful here, girls. We are talking about piquing our husband’s interest, not that cute lifeguard with the great tan. Modesty is still important. But if you, like me, have lost all confidence in your seven-year-old-out-of-style suit--if your swimsuit is meant to hide your figure rather than celebrate it…well, it might be time to go shopping.

So here’s the challenge this month.

1. First, do your homework. Find out what style of suit flatters your body type, then go looking for those particular suits.

2. TAKE YOU HUSBAND WITH YOU! This is the real challenge. Let him pick out some suits that he likes. Then model each one for him in an alluring manner. You may feel a little uncomfortable doing this at first, but try to have fun with it. Men are visual creatures. Seeing you like this will ignite his imagination. Plus, it matters to him that you value his opinion.

3. If hubs cannot go with you on the shopping trip (for whatever reason), pick up three or four styles and have your own private fashion show at home. This can be even more fun. You can always return the suits you don’t want later.

Doing this challenge might take a little effort. Bathing suit shopping can be traumatic when done alone. But it’s time we reclaim the playfulness in our marriages.

Oh, and just for fun, let’s try to continue that quantity challenge. Whatever your max weekly count from last month was, try to maintain that this month too. I’ll be the first to admit I failed miserably at last month’s challenge (Vacation Bible School kills the sex drive!).

And remember, this is supposed to be fun! Your husband will find fun very very sexy.

Just wait and see…

What a refreshingly honest post! I have two or three bathing suits, living in FL and having a pool and one was picked out for me by my husband. However, I always cringe at bathing suit time.

Loved the honesty in this post! Great job.

Debra,

Thank you for being the brave one! I've been watching all day...bathing suit talk scares away even the bravest of Zesters! :) I'm curious though...tell me more about the suit your husband picked out!

I just bought a new swimsuit in the beginning of the week. I had a small budget and didn't have time to make it to the mall, so Wal-Mart was my only option. I was in a hurry to get something since we were taking the kids swimming the next morning. Anyway, I ended up with this swimsuit, http://www.walmart.com/ip/White-Stag-Women-s-Shirred-Halter-Swimsuit/12519606, and I actually like it very much. So did my hubby. I tried on a few and let him pick. I really don't like shedding the clothes and sporting the swimsuit, but you have to do it for the sake of the family. ;-)

This was a great post for the season! Thanks.

FringeGirl,
I checked out your suit and it is gorgeous! Your man has good taste. They can get pricey too, so it's nice to know Wal-mart has some good stuff. I"m going to have to check it out. I haven't done my homework yet...
